The Threads of Fybre

The Threads of Fybre recorded “Mama”/ “Believe Me” in Toronto, Ontario on June 25, 1967.

Members were Tim Meyer drums and vocals, Wayne Diebold rhythm guitar, Gary Brenner lead guitar, and Harold Scheffner on bass. Meyer and Diebold wrote both their songs.

The band was from St. Clements near Kitchener, Ontario.

The Cen-Trend label refers to the centennial year of Canada’s independence. Like other Ontario bands [see the Amen, Inferno 5 Plus 1 and (Those) Rogues], this is an Arc custom pressing done in Toronto.

Thanks to Tim Meyer for information about his band.

Anyone have a photo of the group?

  1. I couldn’t believe it when I heard Mama on the top 40 local station CHYM. It was a what we now call a raw punker but we didnt use those terms back then. I just thought of it as a wild psychedelic screamer. Now they call it garage but that term wasn’t around then yet either. Anything that sounded so out of the ordinary I called psychedelic. And this was extremely out of place on top 40 since all top 40 hits in the 60s were extremely polished. I think it actually made it to No. 38 for a week if my memory is correct. Only lasted about 2 weeks if I recall correctly. I wonder if Tim Meyer remembers. LOL. I still have to have him on my show sometime. I know he and I hate interviews but we should do it.
The only thing close to it on the radio would have been the Electric Prunes -Get Me to the World on Time
