The Sounds

The Sounds released a number of 45s and at least one album, and backed a singer named Tammy on some of her recordings. Info on them in English is hard to come by.

“To Maohma (Un Bimbo sul Leone)” has a nice horn arrangement and Georgie Fame-influenced vocals. It was written by G. Santercole, L. Beretta, Del Preto, G. Sefanou.

Two other songs that are supposed to be good are “Parakseno takseidi” (Strange Trip), and a cover of the Count Five’s “They’re Gonna Get You”.

  1. THIS IS A GREAT SONG!!! I had heard this song once on a cassette tape my cousin from Greece had made for me about fifteen years ago, and I instantly recognized it. Thank you so much for putting it on this site. Awesome site, by the way.

  2. Yeah, the Sounds did put out an album. The best track is a cover of Heart Breaker. There’s also a nice cover of No sugar tonight.Has anybody heard of The Orbiters also on Pan-vox?

  3. The original tune was a hit from Adriano Celentano, one of most popular Italian singers. The translation is “A baby on the lion”.

  4. Have both this Sounds 45 and the original, funnily got the Sounds when ordering a batch of Greek 45’s and the guy messed up the order sending some I hadn’t ordered – including this one – and missing others out I wanted, worked out pretty well! Easily rate this as better than the original. Of the Tammy 45’s with the Sounds on Panvox you mention far far away the best (just insane to put it mildly) is her version of Johnnie Taylor’s soul killer “Who’s making love” that she takes to some very unique places, an old favourite from Sunday nights at Shout! going backaways, you were probably there Chris!
