Lucky Sister A Go Go Tempo EP

Lucky Sister A Go Go Tempo EP Side 1A Shadows cover? I scoured my Shadows collection, but couldn’t pin it. The other tracks are another Shadows/Ventures sounding tune and instro versions of Orbison’s ‘Pretty Woman’ and ‘The House Of The Rising Sun’.

Presumably the record was made as a promo for the Ho Hua Company, sole distributor of Sony products in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang, whose ad appears on the back cover.

  1. Interesting records. Track is orig. “Una Sera Di Tokyo” by Takeshi Terauchi & his Blue Jeans (Japan-65)
Their LP Beat!Beat!Beat! includes too versions of Pretty Woman and The House Of The Rising Sun, so propably
the fourth track too played by Terry &Blue Jeans.

  2. Thanks for the tip. The tune is definitely Una Sera Di Tokyo (Twilight in Tokyo). According to what I can find out the song was written by Yasushi Miyakawa and was first a hit for The Peanuts in Japan, but was soon picked up by many others, including Caterina Valente and Mantovani! It was also popular in SE Asia, with versions by Teresa Teng and The Chopstick Sisters. I haven’t heard Takeshi Terauchi’s instrumental version, but assume it is similar to the way done here by Lucky Sister?

  3. The folks on the cover all seem to be from the movie version of LI’L ABNER (1959); the girl is Julie Newmar as Stupefyin’ Jones. My first thought was that the photo was composited from elements in the LIFE magazine feature, but a google image search couldn’t retrieve the exact pose, and my copy of that issue isn’t accessible.
