Ferris Wheel’s gigs 1967-1969

Welcome to another posting of a series of gig listings for 1960s bands. None of these lists is exhaustive and my idea is to add to them in the comments section below over time. They are here for future researchers to draw on.  I have also added a few interesting bits of information and will add images in time.

I’d like to encourage band members to get in touch to share memories, or for anyone to send corrections/clarifications to my email: Warchive@aol.com

Equally important, if you attended any of the gigs below or played in the support band, please do leave your memories below in the comments section for future historians to use. If you know of any missing gigs, please add them too, if possible, with the sources.

5 thoughts on “Ferris Wheel’s gigs 1967-1969”

  1. Melody Maker 13/05/67 has an ad for The Ram Jam Club which lists –
“Saturday May 13th – Zoot Money plus Ferris Wheel (formerley Diane Feraz & The Checkmates)” so they were obviously gigging long before August with the new name.
Feraz is spelt with only on ‘r’ in the ad.

  2. Fabulous 208 says Ferris Wheel went to the South of France in mid-late July

Fabulous 208 lists the band’s line up as the following in late October:

    Diane Ferraz – lead vocals
    Mike Liston – organ
    Dave Ford – sax
George Ford – bass and lead vocals
Keith Anthony – guitar and vocals
    Harry Reeves – drums

  3. I saw Ferris Wheel at the University College (London, England) Christmas Ball in December 1968. Also playing were Georgie Fame & Band, Cliff Bennett & Band, Zuess and Eric Silk’s Southern Jazz Band

  4. This takes me back. I was their bookerat the Gunnell Agency and when they wanted to change their name from Diane Ferraz & the Checkmates, I came up with ‘Ferris Wheel’, as Diane’s surname kind of triggered it in my mind. They were a very good band who were always well-received. I left the Gunnell Agency at the end of ’67m so lost touch with all bar one member, Keith Field, who became a personal friend, until our ways parted when I joined Charisma Records in ’72. Good memories though.

  5. I saw them as Ferrez Wheel at Farnborough Technical College in November 1968. They were supported by a band called Genesis – MikeRutherford was a student at Farnborough Tech – who were awful. I remember the occasion as I took a newly acquired girlfriend and had my first kiss in the interval.
NB the list above says they were supported by the Gods . I think this is wrong as I have no recollection of them
