    1. I saw Jeff Beck a couple of times in Kingston at this time but not at The Coronation Hall, the first time was spring 1967 at the Drill Hall and then in December at was then Kingston Technical College.

  1. Georgy Fame and the Blue Flames,
The Temperance Seven, (it was aleged that they drunk the bar dry during their break) and one of the best local groups of the 60s was the Falcons or Falcon Rock Group led by Ron (Foxy) Fowler

  2. Gene Vincent played Coronation Hall in Kingston also on 5 February 1971 backed by The Houseshakers (Terry Clempson lg, Freddy Ling sax, Jimmy Wallis b, Bill Williams d). Someone recorded the gig and it was released on bootleg LP: Dressed In Black Magnum Force MFLP 016 (1982) and on two bootleg CDs: Sweet Gene Vincent Morpheus Records OZit CD221 (2004) and Rebel Heart Vol 9 Magnum Force CDMF 110 (2005).

    1. I was there it was a fantastic show we waited outside when it had finished and after about a hour we were let in to see Gene. He was an absolute gentleman signed an LP and kissed me on my hand. Unfortunately when I got divorced from my then husband he took the LP but I still have the memory. RIP Gene he had a beautiful voice just listen to Over the Rainbow the best ever version.

    2. Forgotten note having seen this site and the reference to the recording at Coronation Hall on 5th February 1971 I researched the LP and got one, so thanks for posting this information.

  3. Just stumbled on this by chance. My older brother Alan, played bass in local group Cosmic Sounds. I saw them in the 60’s a number of times at The Coronation Hall or Baths as we knew it. I was there when they supported Lulu & The Luvvers. I saw them support Tony Meehan Combo (John Paul Jones future bass player of Led Zeppelin played bass for them and I have his autograph to prove it). Saw them support Georgie Fame &The Blue Flames, The Marauders, Tommy Bruce & The Bruisers, Sounds Incorporated and others I can’t recall. The dance floor was the swimming pool boarded over, it was a great venue to see groups in the 60’s. All gone and just distant memory now, like the other legendary local venues.

  4. Re. Coronation Hall : As a Kingston Lad, I only went there once and I don’t rember which band it was – pretty local I think. What I do remember very clearly was the incredible accoustics, with the floor decked out in scaffolding from the base of the swimming pool.

  5. Does anyone remember the “YMCA” Club in Kingston? It was in a building long since knocked down, and replaced by the building that now accomodates Primark. The resident band was “Silver Badge Factory”- and they were loud, very loud. They had a Mashall stack that must have been 8m wide, and two cabinets deep. The rumour was that the gear was damaged ex-Who equipment. The Badge Factory covered Cream tunes very impressively. Crossroads and Badge were particularly notible.
