The Only Ones

The Only Ones have one good harmony pop 45 on the Panik label, “You’re the Reason” and “Find a Way”. Larry Calder wrote both songs, registered with the Library of Congress in September, 1966 along with another original “The Only One” that seems to have been unreleased.

The band was from East Detroit, Michigan (now known as Eastpointe). I didn’t know anything about the group until family and friends posted comments below.

Members included:

Larry Calder – guitar and lead vocals
Jim Bohr
Gary Daniels
Mitch Aiken – drums

Anyone have a photo of the group?

  1. This is my husband. So nice to see his music on here. He has done so much more writing since then. What a suprise to see quite a few websites with this 45 on there. He was only a child at the time!! He still has the talent and sings.

  2. Thank you for your comment. This was my dads band, His name was Mitchell Aiken. He passed away in November 08, but if he could see your comment he would have been grateful. I’m so proud to say that my dad was part of something so wonderful and it makes me feel good that there are people out there that enjoyed something he was a part of and he would also be greatful. Thanks

    1. I knew you dad. Sorry for your loss. I use to live on Wilmot. I use to play bass occasionally and sit nt. Then Larry Coulter, put me in a band, we were 2 years younger, the name of our band was the Minor Society. We actually came in 2nd one year at the Battle of the Bands, that year the Detroit Zoo won. My name is Art Kunz. Me and our lead guitarist were getting lessons from Ted Nugent. I always thought your dad was cool..
Again , sorry to hear of his passing

  4. My brother Larry Calder, plus friends Mitch Aiken, Jim Bohr and Gary Daniels rocked the house!
“Find A Way” was a local hit and made the Top 20 in 1966.
Larry Calder still plays in two bands, writes songs and has several CD’s.

    1. I remember when Larry wrote a
Song for my sister Tootsie Fletcher.
I think the name of the song was girl.
      I have the record somewhere.

    2. Linda , Is girl on the other side?
I can’t find it on YouTube.
On the record Larry gave Tootsie
      I think it is.

      1. Hi Vicki!
I can’t remember but it sure is good to hear from you again!
I’ve been trying to find Tootsie for years.

    3. Hi,
I know Larry, he set me and a couple guys up in a band called, The Minor Society, we were a couple years younger.
      Great band.
      Best
      Art

  5. So thrilled I found this! Mitch was my Dad also. It would have been his birthday today. Glad his memory is living on not only through me but through others.
