  1. Another gig from the South East London Mercury:

10 February 1968 – Stockwell College, Bromley, Kent with The Decisions (this was probably with Wynder K Frog – see below)

  2. According to the Birmingham Evening Mail, Jimmy Cliff moved from working with The Shakedown Sound to Wynder K Frog in the first week of February 1968. I found a gig at the Swan, Yardley, West Midlands with Wynder K Frog on 8 February, so it’s possible that the 4 February gig above may have been the final one with Shakedown Sound or the first with Wynder K Frog. The 10 February gig from the South East London Mercury, therefore, was probably with Wynder K Frog.

  3. Two gigs from the Worcester Evening News (The Shakedown Sounds home turf I believe)

    22 March 1967 – 1600 Club, Hereford
    25 March 1967 – Worcester Co-Op

    1. I was at the Co-op gig, which was a great night and quite and at few others in and around Kidderminster at that time; Kev Gammond has some interesting stories of characters he met sharing the stage, including Hendrix…

  4. There is this interesting gig in the Birmingham Evening Mail from 16 September 1966. Forgot to note the venue but Steampacket, Graham Bond Organisation, Cock a Hoops and Barmy Barry also appeared. The backing band are listed as The Sound System. Could this be an interim band between The New Generation and The Shakedown Sound?

  5. Played with Graham Bond and Friends at Kidderminster Town hall gig mentioned above, with The Soul Party as support, did many at Frank Freemans club in Kidderminster as well around 67 / 68 / 69

  6. I believe I saw Jimmy Cliff at Huntingdon Technical College around 1973 -1976. Would love to know if this is true.

  7. Here are a few gigs in France missing from the above:
    7 & 8 January 1967
    4 & 5 May 1967
All at the Omnibus club, Colombes, near Paris.

    10 May 1967 – Les Oubliettes, Rouen (2 shows)

26 January 1968 – Bal de l’École Centrale, Paris (Shakedown Sound #2). Spooky Tooth also performed that night (same Island Records stable).

I attended all these gigs as well as the one mentioned above on 1 June 1967 at the Palais des Sports, Paris – but on this particular occasion I’m pretty sure Jimmy appeared with other backing musicians. I was quite friendly with the band, especially bassist John Best, and would remember if they had been there too.
There were two shows on the same day, with many other bands – Spooky Tooth again (then calling themselves the VIPs), Cream, the Troggs, Pretty Things, Spencer David Group, Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich…
A small detail: during 1967/68 John Best called himself Johnny Lee. I only discovered his real name about 3 years ago.

  8. In 1967 i was a apprentice at the birmid in smethwick , I used to go clubbing every night of the year, The only night i stayed in was christmas day. I had a permanent year round cold, that i could not quit get rid of. I was skint. But i could find the cash for my main passion. Nightly dance sessions in Birminghams, Dance Hall & Clubs. Now to the main point. A fellow apprentice said to me . John, Jimmy Cliff & the Shakedown sound are coming to the evereds club, fancy it. Or was it the Pyramids. Its been a long time ago. Anyway i could not go. I had no car and would not have been able to get back home.
