Akiko Wada

Not garage, this is japanese pop with a sound that reminds me of soundtrack music more than anything else. Great sleeve, for sure. Wada was born in Osaka of Korean parents. This is her second release, a big hit in early '69. She put out many many records and is now a well-known TV personality in Japan.

Akiko Wada live in New York!

Akiko Wada is singing at the Apollo Theater in New York City this coming Monday, Sept. 29 if you're well-heeled (tickets start at $50). Info at www.akikowadany.com/. Her special guest is Sam Moore of Sam and Dave!

Check out this clip of Akiko singing Boy and Girl backed by the Mops, I think it's from the film Stray Cat Rock: Girl Boss, released in 1970.
